ABOUT THE CLIENT
Re-designing an 80-year-old building can be difficult especially when you have to introduce a solution to many problems within the same space. We had several challenges of which is introducing the ablution in an elegant way that is befitting for the guests of this untouched historical mosque, in addition to that, we had other challenges such as the orientation of carpets (qibla) that is not in a row with the columns, service and circulation of the people inside the mosque after each prayer activity.
At the time, Jeddah had her own signature when it comes to historical mosques. It even surpassed other cities with their unique designs and high minarets. But everything changes in due time, and this is when the owner decided it's time to change and keep up with the modern style of architecture.

The main gate of the mosque holds a special place for the people surrounding it so to preserve its historical and emotional value, we renovated the building with a new design that respects the original one while giving a balance of modernness and historical style. This is a famous strategy that architectures use to preserve historical buildings and gives modern touch by renovating using glass. In addition to that we also added a big screen that can be used for advertising and increasing the revenue.
